Travel to my Camino startpoint 06-07/10/2023
Took myself in my car to Lannion train station in the middle of the afternoon. Left the car in the car park and went by train to Rennes - changed trains in Guingamp. Shortly before 9 pm took a coach destined for Bilbao and changed coach in Bordeaux at 2:30 am. This was a coach which came from Paris to O Porto. It set me down in A Coruña half an hour ago. And I am now sitting in a local bus going to Ferrol where I will start walking tomorrow.
Uneventful trip except that I tend to worry a lot when I do not have a lot of time between buses and the bus I am in runs late. However all has been going very well.
Once arrived in Spain this has been quite a memory trip. On my first camino 13 years ago when I walked all the way from home to the Cap de Finisterre via Santiago I followed the Camino del Norte which largely follows the coast and is intertwined with the route nacional and the autovia. So I recognised many places where I had walked, alone and also with my girls.
Galicia, and the North coast of Spain generally, are known for a lot of rain - the clouds coming in from the Bay of Biscay dropping their load in order to get over the Cantabric mountain chain. However after early morning mist the sun has been shining all day and the temperature now is 32 degrees C!
Have taken some photos from the bus and a neighbour took my photograph when I left yesterday afternoon. Will try and post them when I get a connection, also to send this text. Pilgrims albergues are not known for good connections to the internet….
Photos to follow when/if I succeed in posting them tried just now - no success! Santa Patiencia!
